My First Artwork

Painting has been my passion since childhood. I have been attracted to colors, the paint brushes, the canvas, since the age of 4. That's when I had been to my first art exhibition in Nasik, a small town in India. The artist of those paintings was a small time artist, not well known and hence even I did not know the name of the artist, but looking at his work, it seemed as if he was a maestro. By the looks he was a typical artist, the one having long hair, white in color, wore a long shirt of mixed colors, spoilt by the oil paints and the strokes of the brushes. Never the less, his work was truly inspiring. Even though I did not get a chance to personally converse with him, his presence had a very different aura, the kind of which I never had felt before. From afar, i saw him stroking the brush strongly on the white canvas. Slowly a weird looking image of a tiger appeared on the canvas. I thought that the man was crazy drawing such a weird white Bengal tiger, but it was my father who explained to me that this was the way modern art looked, with weird lines and shapes all around, sprinkled band of colors, blue, red, pink, white. It was at that time, when i thought, "Yes, even I must have my own art gallery like this.” Throughout my schooling, I took part in various art competitions, and did well in most of them. However due to certain personal reasons, after my college, I could not continue with my art.
After marriage, I decided to start over once again. I felt like a kid, who starts over every year of schooling after the summer vacations, tries to make new friends, awaits new experiences, as he is now one grade higher. I was very excited. With my husband backing me all the time, I decided to give my painting skills another shot. So after a gap of almost 15 years, I took the paint brush in my hand. The first color that I took on my brush was of course my favorite color, orange. I gently was stroking the canvas board with my paint brush. It was a rejuvenating feeling. I felt as if painting was making me younger by the hour! I had never felt happier before. With soft music in the background, it made my painting experience even more pleasurable. My passion for painting was reborn. Although whatever I painted, didn’t really match todays artistic standards, I was satisfied. I knew that my skills would get better over time. So I decided that out of my every day’s schedule, I would donate some time, at least an hour for my paintings. After a long day’s work, an hour of painting, with the canvas board, the colors and the paint brushes, it was just like the icing on the cake for me. And hence because of which, I would be a happier person. I might not be a professional artist, a maestro, or even a highly skilled painter; I use the colors, the paintbrush and the canvas board, just to keep myself happy.

In the past one year, I have made more than 6 paintings, which some might consider a petty number, according to business standards. But for me, those 6 paintings are like 60. It gave me more happiness than anything in my life. And so a bit of advice to all those people who are overworked by their daily routine and stressful lives out there, follow your passion, be it painting, photography, animation, soccer, any game, writing, acting, dancing, whatever it be, even if it might not give you any handsome income to sustain your life, but it surely will help you keep happy and perform better in your professional lives. Thus, I am going to use this blog to share to you all the wonderful experiences I’ve had creating different paintings.
